Differential expression of serum clusterin isoforms in colorectal cancer.
Clusterin is an enigmatic protein altered in tumors of colorectal cancer patients. Because there is no information available about serum clusterin regarding this pathology, we applied proteomic techniques to analyze its isoforms in donors and patients. First we separated serum proteins through concanavalin A, obtaining a fraction with non- and O-glycosylated proteins (FI) and a second fraction ...
متن کاملLocalization of cGMP-dependent protein kinase isoforms in mouse eye.
PURPOSE To examine the expression of the major isoforms of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP)-dependent protein kinase (cGK) in mouse eye. METHODS Immunohistochemical localization of cGMP in mouse eye cryosections was performed using an anti-cGMP antibody, followed by visualization with indirect fluorescence microscopy. The presence of types Ialpha, Ibeta, and II cGK mRNAs in mouse eye ext...
متن کاملIntracellular clusterin causes juxtanuclear aggregate formation and mitochondrial alteration.
Clusterin is a puzzling protein upregulated in many diseased tissues, presented as either a survival or a death protein. The role of clusterin might depend on the final maturation and localization of the protein, which can be secreted or reside inside cells, either after in situ synthesis or uptake of extracellular clusterin. We studied the biological effects of intracellular clusterin and obse...
متن کاملClusterin mRNA and protein in Alzheimer's disease.
Clusterin, a multifunctional lipoprotein is expressed in a number of tissues but expression is particularly high in the brain, where it binds to amyloid-β (Aβ), possibly facilitating Aβ transport into the bloodstream. Its concentration in peripheral blood was identified as a potential biomarker for Alzheimer's disease (AD) and predicted retention of (11)C-Pittsburgh Compound B in the temporal l...
متن کاملProapoptotic role of nuclear clusterin in brain
Clusterin (CLU) is a multifunctional glycoprotein that has secretory and nuclear isoforms. The two isoforms are known to play opposite roles in cell survival/death. In this review, we summarize recent progress on the pro-apoptotic function of nuclear CLU in vitro and in vivo and discuss previous reports on the role of CLU in brain damage and neurodegeneration.
